Create retail-ready EAN-13 & ISBN-13 product barcodes

EAN-13 (International Article Number, GTIN-13) is the global retail point-of-sale barcode standard used across Europe, Asia, Latin America, Australia, and on all ISBN-13 books worldwide. Simply enter your first 12 digits and CodeKit automatically computes and appends the GS1 Modulo-10 check digit—or enter all 13 digits to verify that your check digit is valid before going to print.

Frequently asked questions

How is the 13th check digit of an EAN-13 barcode calculated?

Starting from the left of the first 12 digits, odd-positioned digits are multiplied by 1 and even-positioned digits by 3. Their sum is subtracted from the next multiple of 10. CodeKit does this automatically when you enter 12 digits.

Can I use this for ISBN-13 book barcodes?

Yes! Every ISBN-13 (starting with 978 or 979) uses the exact EAN-13 symbology.
